Sané redemption in the CL semi-finals FC Bayern misses the win against Real Madrid in the last minutes

At half-time, FC Bayern was behind against Real Madrid, but after the break the Munich team showed their Champions League face: in just five minutes, FCB took the lead, which lasted until shortly before the end. But then there is a late penalty for Madrid.
Madrid final stop? Bayern Munich can only fulfill its Wembley dream with a small football miracle. Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team bit their teeth against European Cup monster Real Madrid with an outstanding Toni Kroos, but at least fought to a 2-2 (0-1) draw in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. Nevertheless: In the second leg on May 8th (9 p.m./Sky and in the live ticker at ntv.de) In the football temple of Santiago Bernabéu, a victory is needed to fulfill the great hope of the final on June 1st in London – if necessary in a penalty shootout.
“On the whole, it was good from us. When you’re in the semi-finals, you also want to get to the final,” said Munich’s Konrad Laimer on Prime Video: “We had a lot of chances, were too dirty a few times. They felt like they had three chances and score two goals.” And Real’s outstanding Kroos emphasized: “Funnily enough, the goals seemed to come when the other team was better.” The draw was reasonably fair and: “We are reasonably convinced that we will progress at home.”

The former Munich player Kroos, the linchpin at Real, prepared the 0-1 through Vinicius Junior (24th) after a flash of thought as “Toni’s through pass”. But the Munich team showed their morale in front of 75,000 enthusiastic fans: Leroy Sané, who recovered in time, equalized with his first competitive goal in six months (53′). When top scorer Harry Kane shortly afterwards (57th) took advantage of a penalty awarded to Jamal Musiala to score his 43rd goal of the season, the arena was finally turned upside down. But Vinicius Junior (83rd, penalty kick) pulled the plug again with the equalizer.
“They did to us what they do to everyone: two goals from two chances to score. That’s why it feels a bit strange now,” said Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel. “But the starting position is now basically crystal clear. We don’t need to think about it now,” he emphasized: “90 minutes, 120 minutes, penalty shootout. Victory in Madrid and on to Wembley.”
Real Madrid keeps a polite distance from FC Bayern
Before kick-off, the south curve once again paid homage to their “Emperor” Franz Beckenbauer. “As a conductor on the field, known throughout the world!” read a huge banner. But on the pitch, Kapellmeister Kroos reigned supreme for a long time in the 27th edition of the “mother” of all premier class classics. Manuel Neuer prevented the DFB returnee from making it 0-2 (51st).
The attitude was right at Bayern – thanks to Tuchel, as sports director Max Eberl emphasized: His speech was “very to the point”. The team, Eberl emphasized, had to “give up respect for the royal coat of arms” – but that didn’t seem to be there at first. “We feel like we can hurt them,” Tuchel said. And that’s how his team played. Sané, like Musiala in the starting line-up after Tuchel’s “last-minute decision”, fired the first dangerous shot after just 40 seconds.
Real, with defense chief Antonio Rüdiger, kept a polite distance and the Munich team had chances almost every minute. Tuchel still seemed dissatisfied, repeatedly intervened and quarreled. Colleague Carlo Ancelotti followed the proceedings stoically, usually with his hands in his pockets. He probably suspected what was coming.
Manuel Neuer saves against Toni Kroos
Min-Jae Kim, who was replacing the injured Matthijs de Ligt, was lured out of the center and after a sweet pass from Kroos, Vinicius ran alone towards the hesitant newcomer: the Brazilian scored ice-cold from eleven meters. “Toni has an open ball. There is a rule for defense: Don’t let yourself be lured!” said expert Matthias Sammer on Prime Video about the mistake.
Now there was a break in the Munich game, only Kane came close to equalizing with a free kick (42nd) before the break. Tuchel reacted during the break and brought on the stronger Raphaël Guerreiro for Goretzka. Sané initially moved to the right side, Musiala tried to move over to the right. The motto was clear: at least the equalizer was needed. But Kroos (51′) almost scored the guests’ second goal. With a brilliant deed, fellow selector Manuel Neuer parried the German Real driver’s shot.
And then it happened on the other side and all of a sudden Real’s calm was over: Sané prevailed and, like Robben, who was following the game on site as an expert, took a shot with his left and hit the near corner. His first goal in six months. But that wasn’t enough, Musiala was fouled in the penalty area just a short time later. Penalty. One thing for Kane.
Kane missed the goal to make it 3-1 by centimeters (66′), Eric Dier’s header was denied by Lunin seconds later. Ancelotti tried to give the hard-fought game another twist in his old place of work: He took down Kroos and the rather inconspicuous former Dortmund player Jude Bellingham (76th) and brought on veteran Luka Modrić, among others. But Bayern fought against the equalizer with full commitment – like Neuer against Vinicius (79th). Then Vinicius Junior took the chance from the penalty spot after a foul by Kim on Rodrygo.
