Convoy Technologies, Inc. has announced it has selected an 18,000-square-foot facility in Oldcastle as the home for its North American production plant.

The new Canadian operation will create 50 jobs once the Indiana-based company is at full production later this fall.
Founded in 2008, Convoy manufactures cameras, monitors and accessories to provide cloud-based telematics services and artificial intelligence-powered driver training systems for heavy duty on- and off-road vehicles and power sports usage.
“We are incredibly excited to have completed a lease agreement for the Tecumseh property,” said Convoy Technologies president Ron Harker.
“It is a critical first step in realizing our goal of being a leading North American producer of cameras for vehicles of all kinds.
“The entire Windsor-Essex community has been nothing but welcoming and helpful and we look forward to joining that community full-time once we move into our facility on Oct. 1.”
Harker added the Windsor region was chosen over a site in Mexico based on proximity to the United States and to the company’s Fort Wayne (Indiana) distribution centre, as well as the region’s labour force expertise in automotive manufacturing.
In addition to its manufacturing operation, Convoy Technologies will centre its research and development activities in the Windsor area, so access to the local talent pool was also a key factor in the site selection.

“Windsor-Essex has been a leader in automotive manufacturing for over a century and continues to lead the nation in next-generation vehicle production as the Automobility Capital of Canada.”
